I hope we can get the song released by the end of March.

David Brown reviewing some freshly-laid down vocal tracks…

Marco Ferreira at the helm… sweeping with threshing oar!

Studio Selfie!
Faster Than Lighttag:www.ftlnation.com,2005:Post/70133512022-07-12T20:16:39-04:002024-02-20T01:02:55-05:00July 2022
Happy July 2022! So... once again it has been a long time since I have written here and updated the page.

Due to a medical emergency back in April I have taken things slow... too slow... I've taken a short break from recording the new Faster Than Light CD, but please know five songs are in varying stages of recording and mixing/mastering. So while we are behind schedule, we are still on track to get this new music out to you all!

I've actually played a few gigs with Zero since my short hospital stay and we are playing again at Casa del Sol in Nyack, NY on July 29th. If you find yourself just north of NYC that day, please drop by and say hello! I've also started jamming with a band up in Connecticut called Vinyl Notice. It's a lot different than any other band I have been in, though there is some overlap. It's catchy, danceable 80s and 90s rock and pop with some other stuff thrown about...

Also, I would be remiss not to send out a thank you to Tom Hilton, Tom Aldora, and Aldora-Britain Records for all of the recent Facebook love! It has not gone unnoticed!

Until next time!

---Keith

Faster Than Lighttag:www.ftlnation.com,2005:Post/69479192022-04-14T01:06:01-04:002022-09-18T17:37:04-04:00Hola!
It's been a very very long time since I've posted here. There have been a lot of ups and downs the last few months... lots of frustrations recording the new Faster Than Light cd... I won't go into details, but I actually disbanded the band and then today undisbanded the band, if that's a word...!

Things with Zero are going well, although I had to miss a gig with them the other night due to a medical emergency... I'm fine, though I needed a couple of nights in the hospital. See picture below - I look great! Ha ha!

That's me in my home office - April 10, 2022 - still alive!

I won't go into any details as to what happened, but it was life or death! And I survived, came out of everything pretty amazingly normal! I'm sure some new songs I write and record will drop some hints as the near-death experience has given me so many ideas for songs. I'm exaggerating just a little, but only a little. It could had been bad, but here I am...

So after exchanging some texts with the guys in FTL, we are back on track to finish the next phases of recording. I'm excited.

I also wanted to share a podcast link with everyone. Rui Marques, of MusicSuccess.com, , interviewed me as part of his podcast series to discuss the different levels of success in the music industry. Our nearly-hour-long discussion was revealing and honest and I think you will enjoy it. The link is here: Music Success Podcast Featuring Keith Lenn and Rui Marques

I hope to be able to post more frequently now that my world has been placed in a different perspective.

Hope you all are making music and enjoying music!

The first single, "Someone I Know," has already hit radio and charted at number 4 on the Banks Radio/Valley 95.5 FM charts in Australia and has been featured on Beacon, NY's WHUD as part of Andy Bale's Artist Spotlight series, the second such time for Faster Than Light! Also, the official Red Thunder anime video was released to the world and features some really cool footage to accompany the song!

On November 19th there will be three FTL surprises! Faster Than Light t-shirts will go on sale on this site as well as Faster Than Light Official Site. There are two more surprises, but you'll have to wait until the 19th to see what they are! I'll drop a hint below!

Just a quick update to let you know that the new songs for the upcoming FTL CD are sounding great! We are hunkering down, not sharing much new music publicly, so be patient. And here is something supercool - check out Faith Federica Sciamanna, lead vocalist of Italy's The Shiver, holding up our CD! Like I said, supercool! As of yet is untitled, but you have seen a lot of the "No Signal" promo pictures I have been posting all over social media and the FTL website... I'm not saying how "No Signal" connects with the Jessica Concept or this new collection of songs... for that you will need to be patient!

I've changed studios and engineers for this new collection of music. Johnny "Rod" at JROD Productions in Pomona, NY did a stellar job on the first CD and if you are ever in the position where you need a studio or engineer, JROD is top notch. He does a lot of work with some famous musicians such as DMC (Yes, that DMC from RUN DMC), Overkill, Generation Kill, and of course, Faster Than Light! Ha ha! I am now recording with Marco Ferreira from Goodbye Thrill and Zero at his home studio. It was just something that happened. We were in the studio, Marco said we should start recording some FTL songs, and it just happened. We have two songs almost completely done and the goal is to record between 14 and 16 songs and choose 13. The line up is the same, and the songs are killer. If you enjoyed the first CD, then you will love this one as well! Jessica makes her appearances, as do some familiar faces and places... Marco is engineering and it looks like he will be garnering some co-production credit as well, as he really has a unique take on my music. I look forward to this coming week when Ken gets into the studio and puts his stamp on the vocals!

Be patient... this is not going to be a quick process. I am hoping that this CD will be recorded, mixed, mastered, and reproduced/distributed by July, 2021. But I will continue to tease you with my promos as the songs build and the product establishes itself.

Until next time,

---Keith

I am not going to give away too much about the songs or the making of the CD, but I will say that there are a LOT of guitars on this bad boy and the songs may be just a slight departure from the first disc, but in a good way! It is definably Faster Than Light and I have high hopes for this collection of music! In the meantime, if you have not picked up a copy of "Now We're Speaking French" visit the FTL store on the website and grab a copy!

---Keith
Faster Than Lighttag:www.ftlnation.com,2005:Post/64379232020-09-19T01:13:56-04:002022-07-12T20:39:24-04:00We started!
It's been a couple of years and I finally got my head into the right mindset to start recording the follow up to Faster Than Light's "Now We're Speaking French" which was released on March 31, 2017.

Having started my second stint in the Zero band (NY-based), a conversation with guitarist Marco Ferreira (Zero, Goodbye Thrill) convinced me to begin recording the CD in his home studio. Drummer Doug Maresca and I took a few hours to go over drum tracks for the first two songs and literally days later we were in the studio to record the first two tracks.

There is no timetable for the completion of the CD, which is as of now untitled. It should be a much quicker process than the debut CD with some record labels interested in this project and nudging for a quick turnaround. I am actually amazed that we took this first step... my head is really into the creative process right now and the CD will likely contain a bunch of songs that were written in the same time period as much of the first CD was written. There are some new songs as well, and I promise Jessica will make an appearance in the songs!

Here are some pictures from the drum tracking and I will be posting more often since we are all in!

When Tom Hilton of Aldora Britain Records contacted me to see about including a track from "Now We're Speaking French" I jumped at the opportunity! The digital compilation features twenty tracks from indie artists around the globe and "The Darkest Side" is track number 16. It is available on Bandcamp by clicking on this link:

I encourage you to give all of the artists on this compilation a listen. My favorite, except of course "The Darkest Side," is a track by Walter Schnitzelsson titled "Short Story." There's lots of cool stuff on this compilation! You can purchase the compilation for just 1.5 British Pounds... it's like a couple of bucks in American money!

There are plans for another collaboration with Aldora Britain Records in the works, most likely in the form of an interview in Tom's e-zine. More on that to come!

Apologies for the long (way too long) break in posts and band news, but there have been a few exciting developments that I am finally ready to share with everyone. But first, an explanation.

Writing, producing, recording and financing a new CD project has challenges. I've considered many times just packing it in and calling it a day, but those thoughts are generally short-lived. That being said, I am proud to announce that recording of the follow-up to "Now We're Speaking French" will begin this week! I've been working with drummer Doug Maresca on the arrangements for two songs as we experiment with a new studio and engineer. If the results are up to previous standards, we will continue on in our new environment. If not, we will go back to what served us well during the first go around. Why the change in studio and engineer? It's purely a creative decision. Sometimes an artist needs to look at things more... well, artistically, and a fresh setting can be a good thing. So this is exciting! On many levels!

I don't want to give too much away! I'll keep you informed along the way as we take a journey to 612 Morris Street. I promise, it will make more sense to you as we travel through space and time together! I better let Jessica know...

---Keith
Faster Than Lighttag:www.ftlnation.com,2005:Post/61719192020-01-24T21:19:47-05:002022-07-12T20:41:05-04:002020!
We all got together at a party and took a photo - first one in a long while. It was possibly the most fun I ever had doing a radio spot - I was there for two and a half hours and it could had gone on for another two and a half hours had it not been for the late hour!

In all honesty, there is not a lot going on right now with the band. It's frustrating, to say the least, but it has afforded me the opportunity to write music and lyrics and to gather and organize my thoughts regarding a possible follow-up CD. The first CD was done right, but the next one needs to be stepped up a bit. The new songs I have... I want to say they are great, but I want to be humble about them as well... many of the songs were written at around the same time the songs on NWSF were written - mid 90s... but there are new songs which are provocative, dangerous, sexy, and powerful... picture the world's strongest man on ice... if that makes any sense... Stay tuned... I hope to sneak into the studio during late summer if for no other reason than to just reacclimate and set the compass point in some unknown direction... ---Keith
Faster Than Lighttag:www.ftlnation.com,2005:Post/50658782018-02-06T21:57:00-05:002018-02-06T21:57:00-05:002018...
It's been far too long since I posted anything on the FTL page. I know it is February already, but Happy Holidays, New Year... whatever it is you feel like celebrating! I know that FTL has been suspiciously quiet, especially with the release of our debut CD "Now We're Speaking French" not even being out a year now... Thank you to everyone who has purchased the physical CD, downloaded the CD or tracks, or streamed our music. Even though we have been damn near invisible, everyone in the band is talking... we are all friends first... and we promise something will be happening in 2018! Just gotta' be patient. And yes, we expect to have some new music - I've already written most of the next CD - maybe 2019? Fingers crossed! ---Keith
Faster Than Lighttag:www.ftlnation.com,2005:Post/48077102017-08-08T23:56:10-04:002017-08-08T23:56:10-04:00RON ROBERTO - NEW FTL GUITARIST!
Keith here! Proud to announce that Ron Roberto has joined the Faster Than Light family as our new guitarist! He'll handle lead work on the cover tunes and also on some of the dual-guitar stuff from the CD. Ron needs no introduction - he's played guitar for Wreckoning, SRO, and now he adds FTL to the list! He's also in my band (and Doug, FTL's drummer) No Apologies! Ron - damn glad to have you aboard! Pictures and stuff soon!
Faster Than Lighttag:www.ftlnation.com,2005:Post/47173392017-05-21T20:43:00-04:002022-07-12T20:43:28-04:00Now We're Speaking French...!
I want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has ordered "Now We're Speaking French..." or downloaded a track, listened on Spotify or Apple Music or Amazon... YouTube... I am blown away by the positive feedback I have been receiving from everyone! If you haven't already ordered a physical copy of the CD or downloaded it, then there is no better time than the present! You can order it right here on the website via our store, but if you are outside of the United States, due to high shipping rates, your best bet is probably to download from one of the many digital providers carrying our CD! If you are one of the many people who received a free copy from the band, and you enjoyed the CD, I am super-pleased and ask that you consider purchasing a copy for a friend. If we can sell 1000 copies in total, we can be fully funded to record and mass produce the next disc! But again, everyone in the band appreciates all of you guys and gals giving our music a listen! We plan on playing some shows later in the year, so stay tuned to this page for news!

I had to adjust the shipping rates in the FTL store to make up for the actual shipping costs through USPS. Please keep in mind that I do NOT make money on the shipping - in fact, I probably lose a few cents on each purchase which is cool by me... a CD shipped to London, Ontario cost $9.50 US plus $0.85 for the padded envelope. I HATE to have to charge this much additional for a physical CD, so if you are not within the United States, my suggestion is to purchase the digital download via iTunes or Amazon. I hate to say that because there was a LOT of time put into the art and booklet and I wish everyone could have that handy while listening to the music! Perhaps I will add a link here where the booklet can be downloaded so that everyone can have access to it! So for those of you who know me, you know I always say, "There are no apologies in rock and roll!" But in this case, I will make an exception because of the high shipping prices. I will be exploring cheaper shipping options this week and hope to have some good news for you soon. In the meantime, there is no shipping for digital downloading so feel free to grab the music that way! But it is close. I've gotten myself backlogged due to a fairly busy gigging schedule with CRUSH and some health issues which needed and still need to be attended to. But things are looking good health-wise and while I have not been able to get myself into the studio to finish up, I have been writing lyrics for new FTL songs. I might even record one before the new cd is even out! We shall see. In the meantime, here is a picture of me playing bass at D&D's in New City, NY a week ago. Looks like my red Fender American Jazz Bass has become my number one.

We might have to do a few touch-ups here and there and I do need to fix one bass track, but it is excitingly close! We also have some backing vocals to think about and then it is mixing and mastering and pressing! There will be 13 songs with a running time somewhere around 42 minutes and possibly a 14th track, yet to be determined. Not all of the songs are completed yet, but I am far enough along where I have already communicated with my GRAMMY AWARD WINNING MASTER-ER (more on that another time though OTHRS fans already know who I am talking about). I've played the songs for just a few close friends and I'm hearing comparisons to the Gin Blossoms, the Lemonheads, and Soul Asylum (seeing them in concert Thursday night!) and I am blown away at that! There is still a lot of work to be done - more guitar and bass work, choosing the vocal tracks that will make the cd, and tightening up some snare drum sounds...but I'm amazed at how this is sounding and I cannot wait to share this with the world! --KeithFaster Than Lighttag:www.ftlnation.com,2005:Post/42437972016-06-22T19:52:24-04:002016-06-22T19:52:24-04:00Studio work coming along nicely...Since my last blog post, I've been in the studio twice to work on some new songs and to start putting some finishing touches on some old songs! I needed to take a break from recording in order to fill some obligations to my bands SRO, The Faculty Band, and CRUSH - been playing a lot of shows and just could not find the time to wrap my head around the FTL songs...but I will be in the studio soon to try to finish it all up before the end of the year! Also, thanks to Steve Off, owner and professional wrestler at Pro Wrestling Magic based in New Jersey, his tag team STORM FORCE will be using RED THUNDER, a song from the new cd, as their entry music! They are debuting the song tonight, but sadly I will not be in attendance...next time though! I've also got something brewing with some Indie Radio - more on that when I know more! #NASHVILLEFaster Than Lighttag:www.ftlnation.com,2005:Post/37941852015-07-29T15:59:17-04:002015-07-29T15:59:17-04:00Two more songs mixed!Keith here! I went into the studio on Monday night while just hours before hearing mixes for two more songs - Jessica Mills and Red Thunder! As usual, Jon did a great job mixing and we still have a few more that are almost ready to go! Doug joined me in the studio and we put down drum tracks for five more songs! These will likely be the last ones, with four of them to appear on the disc! Progress!Faster Than Lighttag:www.ftlnation.com,2005:Post/37749922015-07-12T14:48:23-04:002015-07-12T14:48:23-04:00More mixing being done! Now that the first two songs are fully mixed, I gave my engineer the go ahead to mix the next three songs - Red Thunder, Done Something Wrong, and (I Want To Go To The Mall With) Janine. This will make 5 songs fully mixed by the end of next week! That's almost half the cd! We are going back into the studio as a band in late July to (hopefully) record drums for the remainder of the cd - and one cover that will not be on the record, but will go up exclusively on the website. It is getting close!Faster Than Lighttag:www.ftlnation.com,2005:Post/37381822015-06-11T16:46:20-04:002015-06-11T16:46:20-04:002 Songs Fully Mixed!(From Keith): Got a text from studio engineer extraordinaire Jon Ciorciari that two tracks are fully mixed! I've been listening back to them and the sonic journey these songs have taken from words on paper to demos to live practice to, finally, finished tracks! More to come! In the meantime, while FTL is not currently gigging, please check out our other projects and come see a show!Faster Than Lighttag:www.ftlnation.com,2005:Post/37113302015-05-20T21:40:06-04:002022-09-18T17:41:51-04:00Listening to mixes!
(From Keith): I've spent a lot of time the last two days listening to the very rough mixes given to me by my studio engineer, Jon Ciorciari at JROD Productions. I went in last week with my singer, Ken Reedy, and we fixed some minor vocal and guitar issues as well as recording a song called "Black" which is a shorter acoustic take of a longer heavier song called "Blacker." Ken and I have done two songs now for the cd where Ken has been presented with the lyrics and music at the studio with no preparation, which is what I wanted. I had been playing these songs for a long time and I needed a fresh take on things. Ken sang these songs way differently in many places than I imagined and in ways I never would have come up with. The other song, "I Want To Go To The Mall With Janine," could possibly sneak up as a fan favorite. Man, things are going so well with the recording...I hope I do not jinx things!
Faster Than Lighttag:www.ftlnation.com,2005:Post/37107812015-05-18T20:11:40-04:002022-07-12T20:43:53-04:00We're making a record!
(From Keith): Do they call them records anymore? It's been a few years in the making, but things are finally starting to shape up for us! Back in 2013, we holed up in a small studio in Pomona, NY to record basic tracks for 7 songs. Needless to say, we became sidetracked with side projects, bands, family life, paying the bills...well, you get the idea. In early 2015, I started to revisit these tracks and booked some time to record guitar and vocal tracks. What we ended up with sounded amazing. We were blown away. We knew the songs were good, but we didn't know how good they really were until friends and family heard some of it. We are eagerly finishing the recording phase of this cd (record) and have already begun mixing a few of the tracks. With our fingers crossed, we are hoping for a December 2015 release. If you look hard enough, you might find some hints that will give you access to sneak peeks of a few tracks.
Faster Than Light
